Access Statement for Two Shakes

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.

Car Park

The car park is large and gravel. There is sufficient space for wheelchair access if guests park sensitively.

Entrance to Property

• The door is up 4 wooden stairs and is 750mm wide
• The entrance is well lit with a light outside the front door and at the side from the car park
• The flooring is laminate throughout, with rugs
• There is insufficient space for a wheel chair to manoeuvre comfortably in the shepherds hut

Kitchen

• The kitchen is accessed directly from the front door and is open plan to the lounge
• The worktops and sink are standard height from the floor, as is the hob
• The fridge is under-counter

Bedroom and Sleeping Areas

• The bedroom is on the same level as the lounge but the door is too narrow for a wheelchair
• The bed is king size bed with small space around it – not accessible with a wheelchair at the sides
• The bedroom has natural light from a window
• The bedroom has a ceiling light and 2 wall lights
• The bed is high quality sprung deep mattress

Shower-room with Toilet

• Access to the shower room is step free but the door is too narrow for a wheelchair
• There is insufficient room for a wheel chair in the shower room
• A single step is needed into the shower
• Toilet and basin are all standard size and height but in a confined space

Garden

• The paved and gravel garden is accessible from the lounge down 4 steps
• There is patio furniture in the garden

Additional Information

• One medium size or 2 small dogs are welcome
• Mobile reception is moderate to poor
• The nearest walk in centres are in Alnwick and Berwick approximately 15 miles away each
• The nearest A&E is The Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital approximately one hour drive away
• The hut welcome file has detailed information on all appliances
• There are files in the hut with local activities, events and places to see
